Goodbye Gaia

🇪🇺🚀 Gaia, the European Space Agency’s spacecraft that has has been in space for 11 years, completes its mission. The space observatory is responsible for mapping the Milky Way galaxy with unprecedented accuracy and has revolutionised our understanding of our galaxy.
“Gaia” is running out of nitrogen gas, which it uses to precisely control its rotational motion through space. So in a few weeks, Gaia will leave its current orbit and will be propelled into its final heliocentric orbit, far from Earth’s sphere of influence. Finally, on 27 March 2025. “Gaia” will be completely shut down. 🛰️

On 30 March 2025, at 14:00, at the Molėtai Astronomical Observatory*, we will open an exhibition (in Lithuanian and Spanish) on the “Gaia” space mission at a public event, and will give an overview of the main achievements in the presentation entitled “The Gaia Revolution” (in Lithuanian).

After event we will also invite you to take a guided tour of our observatory in Lithuanian 🇱🇹, Spanish 🇪🇸 and English 🇬🇧.

The event is free of charge
